Match Report for Week 2 of Winter Squash Leagues

October 27, 2017

Rossis Top the Squash Leagues

Rossis first squash team are currently sitting on top of the Norfolk League after a good win against Fakenham. Captain, Tom ‘The Beacon’ Smith got the team up and running with a victory over Michael Baron. After a tight first game, Michael gave Tom too many errors to allow Tom to seal a 3-0 victory.
Martin ‘The Doctor’ Guppy was next on court against Adam Manning. Martin came out firing and claimed the first two games 13-6, 13-6, before Adam staged a mini-comeback, winning the third 13-10. A tight fourth game ensued, with neither man giving an inch. Experience won out in the end with Martin taking it 13-11 and a 3-1 win.
With Rossis leading the tie 2-0, things appeared to swing back towards Fakenham. Firstly, Rob ‘The Hype’ Thirst finding himself 2-0 down against the experienced Andy Trimm. Rob played tremendously mature squash to fight back to level the match 2-2. He maintained his level of performance to claim a superb victory 10-13, 9-13, 13-6, 13-7, 13-7.
Unaware that victory had now been sealed, Simon ‘Surf’s Up’ Watson also found himself 2-0 against the very talented Kian Guerzoni. Thankfully for Simon, Captain Tom Smith was there to provide some wise words on a tactical change during the game break. Following instructions, Simon fought his way back into the match, playing his most consistent squash of the year, levelling the match at 2-2. Simon gained an early lead at the start of the fifth and with some tremendous boasts (a shot that hits the sidewall first) kept Kian at bay all the way through to win the match 3-2.
Last on court was number one seed Matt ‘Showtime’ Bolt, who was seeking revenge over Adam Sinkins who beat him 3-0 in their last meeting. Matt looked in a confident mood winning the opening two games with Adam struggling to get going. Adam fought back tremendously at the end of the third to stay in the tie and send the match into the fourth game. But this time, Matt wouldn’t be denied, winning the fourth 13-9.
So, a super victory which gave Rossis the maximum 20 points and sent them to the top of the table. Things only get harder as they travel to Drayton to take on the Nomads next Monday night. All support welcome!!
